The pack is essentially a sheet of canvas that folds around its contents (clothing, daily rations, and assorted personal items), and is held together by adjustable straps that thread through loops. The original M1910 mess kit is included and is properly maker-marked and dated 1910. The entrenching shovel in its carrier was located between the meat pouch and the haversack flap and fastened to the flap with a standard M1910 belt attachment that secured to a flap with two brass eyelets. Marked (has quite a few different markings) and dated 1918.
